The London based World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research have issued an influential report on cancer prevention which makes the following recommendations which are considered vital important in prevent cancer.


Taking Healthy Diet

Healthy diet is the most important part in cancer prevention. Study shows that some food has the tendency to stimulate the forming of cancer cells, and others food will curb it. Therefore we must eat more healthy food rather those junk food which may trigger cancer cell to grow. The healthy diet must consist mostly of plant based foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grain. Also reduce the consumption of red meat and restrict it to no more than 500g a week. Avoid taking sugar and processed food and has high sugar contain like cake, ice-cream, sweeten biscuit etc and replace it with artificial sugar if necessary. Reduce the salt consumption too and limit it to no more than 6g of salt a day.

Avoid Drinking Of Liquid And Alcohol

Based on years of study, it has found that alcoholic drinks are a cause of mouth, pharynx and larynx, esophagus, and breast (pre and post menopausal) cancer. Evidence also shows that alcohol may lead to colorectal and liver cancer as well. Therefore it is important to minimize and control your alcohol consumption. Women should restrict the alcohol consumption to one glass a day and 2 glasses for men a day.


Reduce Supplements Taking

Many people believe and relying on supplements to help them in cancer prevention. However, recent studies reveals that in the actual fact taking high dose beta carotene supplements can actually increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers.


Maintain Your Weight At The Healthy Level

Based on their study, people with higher body mass index (BMI) is more prone to chronic disease. The appropriate BMI for a healthy adult is between 21 to 23. BMI of up to 24.9 is considered normal from technical point of view, but it is much better to keep it at the lower end of the normal BMI for cancer prevention.


Do Exercise Regularly

Doing exercise will help to build our muscle, relax our mind. Maintain a moderate activity, like brisk walking, jogging for at least 15minutes a day. If you are well fit, you can try to walk for 40-60 minutes or 30 minutes of vigorous exercise. The key point is to do it consistently. Reduce those sedentary activities such as watching TV and surfing internet for extended time.


Breastfeeding Is Good

There is convincing evidence that breastfeeding can protect both the mother and child from cancer. By breastfeeding their children, mothers can lower their own risk of pre- and post menopausal breast cancer. And children who are breastfed are less likely to become obese, thus reducing the risk of getting several types of cancer which are linked to overweight.
